Construction log and EDB (Poland's electronic construction log)
The construction log (dziennik budowy) is the official record of how the works proceeded, written by the site manager, the site inspector and the designer. Since 2023 it can be kept electronically in EDB, a system provided by GUNB, the Polish national building supervision authority.
Entries in the log are evidence. They cover the start and end dates of stages, acceptance of works about to be covered up, the weather during concreting, the inspector's instructions and the designer's remarks. In a dispute over quality or delay, the court and the insurer look there first.
EDB is a GUNB application. The log is opened by a request in the system, access goes to the participants of the building process named by the investor, and entries are signed with a system account and cannot be erased: a correction is another entry. An entry can be made from a phone on site, which changes the working rhythm of a manager running three sites at once.
Paper logs still work. The statute set a transition period with the electronic form as the destination, so companies running several sites usually do not wait until the last year to switch.
A common trap is treating EDB as the only register of the build. It is the official log within the scope the law prescribes, not an archive of photos, measurements, site meeting notes and arrangements with subcontractors. Those live in the company's own system, and what goes into the log is the entry. Before planning automation around it, check with GUNB what data exchange is available at the time rather than assuming an integration exists.
